Portsmouth and Norwich’s summer transfer spend compared so far
Portsmouth will host Norwich in their second game of the 2025/26 Championship on 16 August.
Both sides have had a summer of change, with the Canaries opting to sack former boss Johannes Hoff Thorup and replacing him with Liam Manning.
Portsmouth, on the other hand, have continued to support John Mousinho after the 39-year-old kept them up last season.
The Blues have so far done a good job at replacing Kusini Yengi and Christian Saydee this summer, and Norwich have also been busy.

Norwich have spent more than £10million this summer
Pompey have continued to recruit smartly this summer, with John Swift joining on a free, and Mousinho utilising the loan market with the signing of Yang Min-hyeok from Tottenham.
When the Blues have spent this summer, they have continued to be careful not to blow the bank.
Luke Le Roux joined from Swedish side IFK Varnamo for around £1million, and Pompey matched that fee for Mark Kosznovszky from Hungarian side MTK Budapest.
Adrian Segecic has joined the Australian contingent at Fratton Park, and though he joined as a free agent, his former club, Sydney FC, received a six-figure fee in training compensation due to his age.
Player | Club | Fee |
Mark Kosznovszky | MTK Hungary | £1m |
Luke Le Roux | IFK Varnamo | £1m |
Adrian Segecic | Sydney FC | Free |
John Swift | West Brom | Free |
Yang Min-hyeok | Tottenham | Loan |
Florian Bianchini | Swansea | Loan |
In comparison, Norwich have splashed the cash during the transfer window.
The Canaries most notably signed centre forward Mathias Kvistgaarden for £6.8million from Danish side Bronby.
They also spent £4.3million on left winger Papa Diallo from Metz, with nine other new signings joining.
- Norwich have signed: Mirco Topic, Jacob Wright, Vladan Kovacevic, Jakov Medic, Jovon Makama
Manning has also added experienced Championship players to his squad, including Harry Darling, Jeffrey Schlupp, and Daniel Grimshaw.

Portsmouth have the upper hand against Norwich
Portsmouth battled for a hard-fought 1-0 win against Oxford in the opening game of the Championship season, and have the upper hand in terms of momentum.
The Canaries endured a 2-1 defeat against Millwall in their first match, and supporters were frustrated with their poor performance.
Despite the visitors having made more signings, they must bed these players in before they can start performing, which will give the Blues the advantage, especially at Fratton Park.
