Colby Bishop penalty record as agonising miss costs Portsmouth vs Norwich
Portsmouth lost their second game of the Championship season 2-1 at home to Norwich at Fratton Park on Saturday.
Mousinho’s side got off to an awful start against the Canaries, as Harry Darling was unmarked for their opener, and Josh Sargent was also afforded a free header as he doubled their advantage.
The Blues did have a late fightback, with Adrian Segecic halving the deficit from distance, but failed to equalise despite ten minutes of added time.
Colby Bishop has made a name for himself as a clinical goalscorer at Fratton Park, but failed to convert from the spot against Norwich before Segecic’s goal.

Bishop has missed four of his last six penalties
Mousinho has ruled out bringing in a new striker at this stage of the transfer window.
The Blues currently have Bishop and Callum Lang as options in the number nine position, but supporters have called on Portsmouth to sign a new striker to take the pressure off the pair.
Bishop has often shown plenty of firepower in front of goal on the south coast, but he has recently hit a stumbling block when it comes to converting from the spot.
When Florian Bianchini was fouled in the box in the 78th minute, Pompey thought they had been handed a lifeline.
However, Bishop’s spot kick was comfortably saved by Vladan Kovacevic, which halted any hopes of a comeback.
The miss was Bishop’s fourth in his last 11 attempts from the penalty spot, which has prompted supporters to call for a new penalty taker.
Bishop’s last four spot kicks:
- Penalty miss vs Norwich
- Goal vs Norwich (18 April)
- Miss vs Derby
- Goal vs Stoke
The 28-year-old has now missed eight penalties in his career, with 32 scored.
Mousinho could now turn his focus towards who could be Pompey’s new penalty taker.

Callum Lang to become Portsmouth’s new penalty taker
Pompey will be looking for a new penalty taker to take the extra responsibility off Bishop’s shoulders.
Player | Penalties taken | Penalties scored |
Callum Lang | 2 | 2 |
Colby Bishop | 40 | 32 |
Lang feels like the perfect option for the Blues, given his prolific form in front of goal, should his injury not keep him out for an extended period.
He has only taken two penalties in his career and has scored from both, and a fresh approach from the spot could put a stop to goalkeepers figuring out their penalties.
