John Mousinho may consider Colby Bishop axe for Portsmouth vs West Brom after what happened

John Mousinho has big decisions to make as Portsmouth have not started the 2025/26 season strongly.

While the Fratton Park outfit beat Oxford United in the first gameweek, they have lost both their games in all competitions following that one.

Most recently, Portsmouth suffered a 2-1 defeat against Norwich City at home on Saturday.

Colby Bishop could be dropped against West Brom

Colby Bishop started against Norwich City and played the full 90 minutes in what was an underwhelming display.

Not only did he miss a penalty, but a lot of his statistics from the game were far from impressive, which let Pompey down.

Mousinho may consider dropping Bishop for his side’s next match against West Brom on 23 August because of the performance.

His single shot on target from two attempts underscores his inefficiency in front of goal.

Additionally, the 28-year-old’s passing accuracy was poor at 61 per cent (14/23), with 14 instances of possession lost, indicating struggles in maintaining control and contributing to build-up play.

His lack of successful dribbles suggests limited impact in the final third, while being dribbled past twice exposes defensive vulnerabilities.

Although dominant in aerial duels (11/14 won), his overall impact was underwhelming.

Mathias Kvistgaarden could start for Portsmouth

Mousinho, aiming to secure points in the Championship, may opt for a more reliable striker to capitalise on scoring opportunities and maintain possession against West Brom’s robust defence, potentially relegating Bishop to the bench to reassess his form.

Mathias Kvistgaarden came off the bench against Norwich and he’s capable of leading the line for them.

It remains to be seen if Mousinho goes for the bold option to send a message across to the rest of his players or if he continues with Bishop.
