Portsmouth fans fume at Connor Ogilvie after ‘inexcusable’ scenes in Norwich defeat

Portsmouth suffered a defeat on Saturday as Norwich City overcame John Mousinho’s side 2-1 at Fratton Park.

Despite Adrian Segecic once again finding the net for Pompey, the Aussie was unable to prevent the defeat.

Many Portsmouth players struggled against Norwich, including Connor Ogilvie.

However, the defender was at the centre of a controversial moment late on in the defeat.

Portsmouth fans accuse Ogilvie of cheating vs Norwich City

Late in the match, Portsmouth were pushing for an equaliser against Norwich City, and they had multiple great opportunities to get the goal.

One came in added time as a corner ball fell to Ogilvie in the box, but before he was able to get his shot away, the 29-year-old appeared to be tripped by Jacob Wright in the box.

Yet, the referee didn’t see it this way and instead booked the defender for diving.

Debate over the incident continued after the match, with Mike Dean claiming that Portsmouth shouldn’t have had the penalty.

Now, many Pompey fans seem to agree and are far from amused with Ogilvie, who was in a great position to equalise.

However, many others, including former referee Keith Hackett, believe Portsmouth should have been awarded a penalty in added time.

John Mousinho may have to drop Ogilvie

The penalty incident aside, Ogilvie was poor against Norwich.

On Fotmob as of 17 August, the full-back received a 6.6 rating, the fourth lowest of any starter on the pitch.

The defender also struggled in attack and failed to produce a single cross that found a man.

Therefore, Mousinho may have to look for a potential replacement for Ogilvie and drop the full-back.

Portsmouth simply cannot afford to have players this inconsistent in the side or it could well cost them a place in the division.
