Three wingers Portsmouth could target in wake of Callum Lang injury blow

Portsmouth are likely to step up their search for a winger now that Callum Lang is injured.

Lang was withdrawn from the 2-1 defeat against Norwich with a hamstring injury that will likely keep him out of action for a few weeks.

After the game, Pompey boss John Mousinho admitted that the club were already in the market for new wingers, as this is a position where they remain short.

Perhaps Lang’s injury might persuade the Blues to spend a bigger sum to solve this problem.

Below, Pompey News explores three wingers who the club might be looking at.

Duncan Watmore available for free

Duncan Watmore is a Championship stalwart, having played for Millwall, Middlesbrough and Sunderland in this division.

Watmore was released by Millwall last summer and remains a free agent despite the new season starting.

He’s 31 years old, which is older than the profile of player that Mousinho has been targeting.

But perhaps the Pompey boss could overlook that as the deadline to sign new players draws closer.

Grady Diangana still looking for new club

Grady Diangana was linked with a move to Portsmouth earlier in the summer, although there has been no news of an official bid.

The DR Congo international remains a free agent after being released by West Bromwich Albion. That might change soon as Saudi Pro League side Damac FC look ready to offer him a contract.

It has previously been suggested that Diangana’s wages could be a stumbling block.

Portsmouth won’t be able to match Saudi wages. However, if Diangana preferred to remain in England, they could perhaps stretch their budget to make him a tempting offer as the transfer window draws to a close.

Abu Kamara a tempting proposition

Some Portsmouth fans simply can’t let go of their dream of signing Abu Kamara.

Kamara was fantastic for Pompey during a loan spell in 2023-24, helping them win League One with a string of man-of-the-match performances.

Mousinho continues to express his admiration for Kamara, and it has only been the club’s finances that have prevented a bid to sign him.

Again, this might be one that they decide to stretch the budget to make happen now that the transfer window is closing.

They’ll have to beat the likes of Getafe, Rangers and Birmingham for his signature, though.
