Josh Knight fee revealed as Portsmouth reach agreement with Hanover

Portsmouth have been heavily linked with Josh Knight over the past week.

The Hanover centre-back has only been in Germany for a year, but is set for a quick return to England.

Formerly at Peterborough, reports emerged on Tuesday that Portsmouth were in talks to sign Knight.

Now, the transfer saga has developed further as John Mousinho looks to add to his squad before the window closes.

Portsmouth are set to sign Josh Knight for £870k

After the departure of Rob Atkinson, Portsmouth have been searching for a new centre-back.

Now, after it was revealed that Hanover are willing to part with Knight this summer, Pompey have wasted no time in trying to get the deal done.

According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg via X on 20 August, the two clubs have now reached an agreement for the deal.

Portsmouth are set to pay £870,000 for Knight, plus add-ons.

Therefore, a full agreement in principle has been reached, with the centre-back already having a verbal agreement with Pompey.

Now, Mousinho will be hoping the deal will become official as soon as possible, ready for their trip to West Brom on the weekend.

How good is Josh Knight?

Prior to his move to Hanover, the centre-back was a star player at Peterborough in League One.

Here, Knight helped the Posh win the EFL Trophy before departing for Germany the season after.

However, despite Hanover allowing the defender to leave this summer, the 27-year-old produced plenty of decent stats during his stay.

Now, Mousinho will be looking to utilise this throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

If Knight can quickly adapt to the Championship, there is no reason why he can’t become a star at Fratton Park.
