Callum Lang speaks out about ‘really frustrating’ news at Portsmouth

Callum Lang has been a key player for Portsmouth, making 32 league appearances last season under John Mousinho.

Even in the 2025/26 Championship campaign, Lang has started both games for Pompey.

The 26-year-old played 80 minutes as Portsmouth beat Oxford United 1-0 on 9 August and was on the pitch for less than an hour in the 2-1 defeat to Norwich City at Fratton Park.

Callum Lang frustrated at hamstring injury

Portsmouth will be without Lang’s services for a few weeks as he injured his hamstring against Norwich City.

Mousinho confirmed that the best-case scenario for the attacking midfielder is for him to return in the next four weeks.

However, the Pompey boss admitted that he could be ruled out for up to eight weeks, which means that he’ll return in the final weeks of October.

The Englishman will certainly miss the games against West Brom and Preston ahead of the international break.

Reacting to his injury, Lang took to Instagram to write: “Not how I wanted to start the season. Really frustrating, but it’s time to get this hamstring right and get back out there as soon as possible.”

What can Portsmouth do to combat Callum Lang’s absence?

Portsmouth face a significant challenge with Lang’s latest hamstring injury, sidelining him for a few weeks after his promising start to the Championship season.

Having missed 10 games last term due to a similar issue, his absence alongside Harvey Blair’s ongoing injury and Matt Ritchie’s expected exit leaves the right flank vulnerable.

Mousinho must now rely on Adrian Segecic, Florian Bianchini and Minhyeok Yang to step up, with their competition for starts offering a chance to unearth a new talent.

However, to bolster depth and maintain their second-tier status, Pompey are keen to reinforce this position before the transfer deadline.

Potential options include loan moves for young wingers or a modest investment to sign a wide attacker permanently.

Strategic recruitment, combined with tactical adjustments like utilising a 4-3-3 to spread the load, will be crucial to mitigate Lang’s absence and keep the Blues competitive.
