Portsmouth fans urged to boycott Southampton game after ‘disgusting’ announcement
Portsmouth travel to St. Mary’s Stadium on 14 September for the first South Coast derby of the season.
The derbies against Southampton will have been the first that Pompey fans sought out when the Championship fixture list was released.
Since the date of Pompey’s trip to Southampton was known, fans have been speculating about ticket details on social media.
Now the official ticket details for the South Coast derby have been released, many supporters aren’t happy.

Portsmouth slam ticket prices for trip to Southampton
Fans were already notified that they would be forced to travel to Southampton via Portsmouth’s official coach service. This was announced in July as a measure to keep supporters safe.
However, many supporters bemoaned the inconvenience and the extra cost of this measure.
Now, it seems they’re even more annoyed after it was revealed that Southampton are charging £40 for away fans to watch the match.
On top of the £22.50 for mandatory coach travel, it’s lining up to be an expensive afternoon for Pompey fans.
Reacting to the news on X, many supporters urged the club to charge Southampton the same or even more for the return fixture at Fratton Park.
One slammed the announcement a “disgusting”, while another called for a boycott.
Portsmouth will be underdogs against Southampton
Despite Southampton’s shameful performance in the Premier League last season, they still have one of the strongest squads in the Championship.
They’re among the favourites to be promoted from the second tier this season, based on the strength of their squad and the parachute payments they have received from the Premier League.
This makes Portsmouth the underdogs when they travel to St. Mary’s on 14 September.
Date | Result |
18 December 2011 | Portsmouth 1 Southampton 1 |
7 April 2012 | Southampton 2 Portsmouth 2 |
Portsmouth are likely to miss injured Callum Lang for this derby match, while Marlon Pack is unlikely to have recovered from his knee injury.
However, there’s always a chance in a derby match.
Portsmouth will sell out their allocation of tickets when they go on sale on 27 August, and Mousinho’s side will be backed by a vociferous support as always.
If Pompey can leave St. Mary’s with all three points, the players will win a permanent place in the hearts of fans.
