John Mousinho offers Colby Bishop injury update after striker forced off vs West Brom
Portsmouth supporters have been left concerned after striker Colby Bishop was substituted in the 76th minute against West Brom.
With Portsmouth fighting to keep hold of their 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns, Bishop took a knock as he attempted to hold up play and was taken off for Terry Devlin.
Given Bishop‘s injury woes last season, worries have emerged over whether the injury was serious and if he will be available for action against Preston next time out.
Well Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has now provided an update on Bishop’s fitness.

John Mousinho says Colby Bishop ‘should be fine’ following knock
Bishop got back to his goal-scoring ways against West Brom after missing a penalty in the loss to Norwich.
Mousinho has been quick to play games when it comes to his injury updates this season, having previously stated Bishop wouldn’t play against Oxford United before starting the striker.
The Pompey boss wasn’t playing around following the draw as he issued an update on the striker’s fitness, saying that he was substituted due to receiving a whack.
West Brom | Club | Portsmouth |
0.58 | Expected goals | 1.02 |
13 | Shots | 8 |
655 | Passes | 359 |
However, he added that he should be fine following the knock.
Bishop was crucial to Pompey getting a point against the Baggies as he was one of their only attacking outlets.
The Blues struggled for attacking outlets, with Florian Bianchini missing an early one on one and looking very poor overall.
Fellow attacker Josh Murphy was also important, as he provided the cross for Bishop’s equaliser.
Portsmouth should prioritise signing a striker
With the weight that is being put onto Bishop’s shoulders, it feels inevitable that he will pick up another knock.
It feels insane to be complaining about the loss of Christian Saydee and Kusini Yengi at the end of last season, but given Portsmouth’s lack of attacking options, that’s where they are at.
Mousinho has admitted that they would have to wait to sign a striker on loan from the Premier League, but it is starting to feel like time is running out.
Should they fail to recruit a new forward, there will be worries of relegation, with Thomas Waddingham unable to become a prolific goalscorer in his first full season.
