Colby Bishop can break incredible Portsmouth record with goal against Preston

Colby Bishop has become Portsmouth’s main man since joining from Accrington Stanley in 2022.

Bishop hasn’t been without his issues at Fratton Park, with the striker suffering from plenty of injuries and having a heart issue last summer.

However, the 28-year-old has always managed to come back stronger following his off-field issues and managed to bag 11 goals in 32 games as Portsmouth avoided relegation last season.

Should Bishop be fit for the game against Preston on 30 August, he has a perfect opportunity to make history for Pompey.

Colby Bishop could become Portsmouth’s top scorer in the 21st century

Things didn’t get off to the best of starts for Bishop this season, as his missed penalty against Norwich damaged hopes of a comeback.

The striker did make up for his miss as he scored the equaliser in Portsmouth’s 1-1 draw with West Brom at the weekend.

His goal took the 28-year-old closer to breaking a record for the most goals from a Portsmouth player in the 21st century.

The header was Bishop’s 57th goal for the Blues, which brought him level with Ronan Curtis.

Portsmouth’s top scorers in the 21st century:

Bishop is also now level as the 15th highest goalscorer in Portsmouth’s history.

It’s rare to find someone with the goal-scoring ability of Bishop and keep him for so long in the EFL, and the player deserves huge credit for not forcing his way out of Fratton Park.

How much longer does Colby Bishop have left at Portsmouth?

Portsmouth have made a name for itself for recruiting cheaply and making money from sales.

Given Bishop’s progression with the Blues and the fact that he is in his prime, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the striker depart soon.

Should he continue to impress this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more clubs come in for him.

A lot of Pompey supporters would be surprised to see Bishop still at Fratton Park this time next year, should he continue to impress.
