Which games Callum Lang will miss for Portsmouth after John Mousinho issues injury update
Portsmouth supporters have been given the news that they all dreaded after Callum Lang picked up yet another injury.
Lang was forced off injured in the 57th minute in their 2-1 defeat to Norwich, leaving supporters worried that he would be out for a while.
The Fratton Park faithful were then left fearing the worst when Lang wasn’t involved in Portsmouth’s squad to play West Brom.
The medical team estimated an initial recovery period of four to eight weeks for the forward, but the 26-year-old will be missing for much longer.

Callum Lang to miss up to 12 weeks through injury
Pompey did well initially this summer to keep hold of Lang and Colby Bishop.
However, with both Portsmouth strikers facing injury problems, the Blues will surely recruit a new number nine option before the end of the transfer window.
Mousinho has confirmed that Lang will now miss up to 12 weeks due to the hamstring injury he picked up against Norwich, with surgery taking place.
Games Lang is likely to miss through injury:
- Preston North End (August 30)
- Southampton (September 14)
- Sheffield Wednesday (September 20)
- Ipswich Town (September 27)
- Watford (October 1)
- Middlesbrough (October 4)
- Leicester City (October 18)
- Coventry (October 21)
- Stoke (October 25)
- Birmingham (November 1)
- Wrexham (November 5)
- Hull (November 8)
Lang will miss important games against Southampton, Ipswich, and Middlesbrough during his spell on the sidelines.
Should things go to plan, he could return after the October international break against Stoke, but Mousinho is unlikely to push him too much.
Instead, he could return after the November international break when they host Millwall.
His injury intensifies the need for Portsmouth to sign a new striker, and Mousinho has previously hinted that they could make a loan move for a Premier League option towards the end of the window.
How many games has Callum Lang missed through injury in his career?
Lang visited a specialist for his hamstring injury and has undergone surgery to stop it from recurring.
Injuries haven’t been a constant issue in the striker’s career, but the fact that his most recent knock matches the hamstring injury he picked up last season is a concern.
Callum Lang’s injury history:
- 2024/25 Season (Portsmouth): Lang missed more than two months and ten games of Pompey’s Championship run-in with a hamstring injury he sustained against Oxford United in February 2025
- 2022/23 Season (Wigan Athletic): Lang suffered an unspecified injury in September 2022 that sidelined him for approximately 32 days, causing him to miss six matches
Overall, Lang has missed 17 games through injury during his career and is now likely to miss plenty more.
However, it will be a worthwhile sacrifice for the former Wigan striker as it could mean he doesn’t pick up similar issues in the future after surgery.
