John Mousinho puts price tag on Josh Murphy as Leicester swarm

Portsmouth have been rocked by rumours that Leicester City are trying to sign Josh Murphy.

Murphy was Portsmouth’s Player of the Season last year, and he has continued to show his class for Pompey during this campaign.

Murphy was the star man once again for Portsmouth during their 1-0 win over Preston on Saturday.

After the game, John Mousinho was asked about the speculation surrounding Murphy and the Blues manager dared to put a price tag on his player.

John Mousinho says how much Portsmouth would sell Josh Murphy for

It has been suggested that more than one Championship team is interested in signing Murphy, although Leicester are the only team that have been named by the media.

When questioned about this potential transfer by BBC Radio Solent, Mousinho said he had been told by the board that the player isn’t for sale.

However, the Pompey boss couldn’t help but make a tongue-in-cheek comment on a potential price tag for his star player.

“It would take £50m from Real Madrid for us to consider selling him,” he said.

Portsmouth fans would be happy to close the transfer window now

Portsmouth have bought very well in the transfer window this summer. Plus, they have been able to keep hold of all their star players now.

Although Mousinho insists that Murphy is not for sale, sometimes these decisions are taken out of the manager’s hands.

Mousinho has already shown his habit of bending the truth in interviews this season too, so Pompey fans won’t be breathing a sigh of relief yet.

The Portsmouth boss has spoken about his desire to recruit more players before the transfer window closes.

However, with these Murphy rumours continuing to do the rounds, many supporters would happily accept the window closing now rather than risking losing their best player.

Portsmouth have enjoyed a bright start the season and currently look more than capable of improving on last season’s 16th-place finish.

However, a last-minute sale of their star winger could put a different perspective on the season ahead.
