Portsmouth in last-ditch crisis for Josh Murphy to stay as second Championship club enters race
Josh Murphy has established himself as one of Portsmouth’s best players since his move to Fratton Park last summer.
The winger was sensational for Pompey in the last season, picking up 21 goal contributions as the South Coast club avoided relegation.
As a result, Murphy has been consistently hailed for his performances at Portsmouth, with fans in awe of the 30-year-old.
As a result, Murphy won numerous awards at Portsmouth at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, as his contributions were recongnised.
However, John Mousinho now faces a battle to keep hold of the winger, with just days remaining of the transfer window.

Two Championship sides are interested in Josh Murphy
News broke on Friday that Murphy could leave Portsmouth for Leicester City before the transfer window closes.
This news no doubt came as a shock, with Pompey now in a real battle to keep their star
Now, according to Darren Witcoop via X on 30 August, Portsmouth face a fight to keep Murphy.
- Murphy joined Portsmouth last summer on a free transfer after leaving Oxford United
- The winger scored seven goals and collected 14 assists in the 2024/25 campaign
- Murphy is now subject to heavy interest late in the transfer window
Two Championship clubs are interested in the 30-year-old in a potential transfer crisis for Pompey.
While these sides aren’t named, one is likely to be Leicester City based on Friday’s rumours.
It remains to be seen if Portsmouth will be able to hold onto their star man as the transfer window heats up.

Portsmouth cannot afford to sell Josh Murphy no matter the price
No matter how big a bid may be for Murphy, Portsmouth simply cannot afford to sell the winger.
Given how important the 30-year-old is to the squad, Pompey cannot lose his attacking contribution.
Mousinho is also unlikely to be able to find a replacement in time, which could lead Portsmouth waiting until January to sign a new winger.
This is simply an unacceptable risk, which could end up sending the South Coast side back down into League One.
