Josh Murphy set to stay at Portsmouth as Leicester City transfer collapses

Portsmouth fans are no doubt nervous about Josh Murphy’s future on deadline day.

The winger has been sensational since his move to Pompey last summer.

Murphy swept the end-of-season awards at Portsmouth last season after collecting 21 goal contributions.

However, Leicester have been keen on Murphy late in the transfer window, with John Mousinho facing a battle to keep his star man.

Now, the transfer saga has taken another twist with just hours remaining until the 7pm deadline.

Leicester fail to sell Patson Daka to Real Betis

Falling back into the Championship, Leicester have not been afraid to sell some of their stars.

One player that the Foxes were looking to depart with was Patson Daka, who had interest from Real Betis.

However, according to John Percy via X on 1 September, the deal has now collapsed, with the Spanish side nowhere near Leicester’s £10million valuation.

With Leicester currently having several forwards on their books, they surely won’t look to add Murphy.

Daka has been a regular from the bench this season, with the on-form Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi starting on the wings.

Therefore, even if Leicester come back in for Murphy, the 30-year-old may not entertain being a bench option for the Foxes with so many stars ahead of him.

As a result, the winger will surely be a Portsmouth player after deadline day.

No price worth Josh Murphy sale

With hours left in the transfer window, Portsmouth simply do not have time to find a replacement.

Therefore, even if Leicester come in for Murphy again, the deal should not be sanctioned.

If the winger is kept, not only would safety be assured, but it could see Pompey maintain their spot in the top-half.

Hopefully, Murphy will be able to repeat his form from last season in the current campaign.
