Portsmouth announce surprise deadline day exit after transfer speculation

Portsmouth are in for a busy transfer deadline day as John Mousinho looks to bring in additional signings.

Makenzie Kirk is expected to move to Fratton Park before the 7pm deadline hits after an agreement was reached with St. Johnstone.

On top of this, Franco Umeh could sign for Portsmouth with an agreement close between Pompey and Crystal Palace.

However, departures could also take place throughout the day, with Josh Murphy heavily linked to Leicester, with the Foxes already having two bids rejected.

John Mousinho is also willing to sanction sales on deadline day in the final tweaks to his squad.

Portsmouth terminate contract of Abdoulaye Kamara

Since joining Portsmouth last summer, Abdoulaye Kamara has not been a success.

The midfielder only made six first-team appearances last season, despite the high potential he was believed to have had.

Saarbrucken were reported to be eyeing Kamara, and now the saga has taken a late twist.

Portsmouth confirmed via X on 1 September that they had terminated the midfielder’s contract.

This comes as a surprise, with it now being previously reported or indicated by Mousinho that this was in the works.

As a result, Kamara has now signed for Saarbrucken after Portsmouth and the midfielder reached a mutual agreement to part ways.

After arriving in Germany, the 20-year-old will no doubt be keen on getting his career back on track in the third tier.

Now, the midfielder will be hoping to play most weeks as he looks to fulfil his potential that he showed during his previous spell in central Europe.

Upon the confirmation of his transfer to the German club, Kamara was keen to express how happy he was to be signing for the German side.

He told Saarbrucken on 1 September: “I am very happy to be able to play for a traditional club like the FCS and would like to make my contribution to ensure that the club is at the top at the end of the season.

“The discussions with the coach and the sports director convinced me that it is the right step to move to Saarbrücken.”
