Portsmouth set for ‘very active’ deadline day as Leicester submit second bid for Josh Murphy
Josh Murphy’s future at Portsmouth is in doubt, with just hours left of the transfer window.
The winger’s form at Fratton Park from the 2024/25 campaign has now been noticed by plenty of Championship sides.
Leicester City have already seen a bid knocked back for Murphy.
However, the transfer saga has now developed further on deadline day.

Leicester see another bid rejected for John Murphy
Portsmouth do not want to sell Murphy despite the interest in the winger.
There was a hope that interest would die down in the 30-year-old after Leicester City reportedly moved on to a Murphy alternative.
However, according to Chris Wise via X on 1 September, the Foxes’ interest has not gone away.
It is believed that Leicester have submitted another bid for Murphy, but this has been knocked back.
- Murphy joined Portsmouth on a free transfer last summer after his contract at Oxford United expired
- In his first season at Fratton Park, he provided 21 Championship goal contributions
- Now, Murphy could leave Portsmouth on deadline day for Leicester City
Portsmouth have remained firm, and there is no need or pressure to sell the 30-year-old.
On top of this, the BBC journalist also stated that he expected it to be a “very active” deadline day at Pompey.
Multiple players have been linked to Portsmouth in recent days, and it remains to be seen if they get their targets through the door.
John Mousinho must have backup targets in mind in case of a Josh Murphy sale
While Portsmouth may not want to sell Murphy, anything can happen on deadline day.
Therefore, Mousinho has to have a backup plan in case the winger does depart.
Given how many goals Murphy provided last season, his departure would be a dire loss.

As a result, the Fratton Park star would need to be replaced by quality additions, or Pompey would be at serious risk of relegation.
However, with it being so late in the transfer window, it could well be a struggle to bring in a replacement would can be a serious threat in the Championship.
