Critics already called out as Portsmouth star Adrian Segecic ‘excels’ in stunning reveal

Adrian Segecic has been excellent since he joined Portsmouth this summer.

The attacker has already found the net twice in four games in the Championship, and netted Portsmouth’s winner in the 1-0 victory over Oxford United.

As a result, Segecic has been rightly praised for his early performances at Fratton Park, with the 21-year-old on fine form.

With the Australian international now away with his country, many pundits are taking the time to reflect on his early season form, including Daniel Garb.

Daniel Garb: Adrian Segecic’s form tough read for A-League haters

Segecic moved to Portsmouth from Sydney FC for a minimal fee, with the striker being outstanding in his final year in Australia.

The 21-year-old netted 17 times in all competitions and won the Golden Boot for the A-League.

However, given that few fans had ever seen the attacker play, there were certainly doubts about his ability when he arrived from Down Under.

Yet, these have been quickly expelled, with Opta showing via X on 3 September that Segecic had created eight scoring chances and won possession in the final third six times already this season.

Compared to the rest of the Championship, the Australian international ranked third and second in these statistics.

As a result, ABC broadcaster Garb was quick to respond to the post, using how Segecic has “excelled” at Portsmouth to criticise those who question the A-League’s quality.

He said: “Tough read for those who constantly diminish the A-League.

“If it’s so poor, as some will suggest, how can a player like Segecic go straight from Sydney FC to the Championship and excel to this extent?”

How good has Adrian Segecic been at Portsmouth?

According to Fotmob on 3 September, the attacker has easily been one of the best players at Pompey in the opening games.

Not only has Segecic been a threat in attack, but he has also been highly creative and is unlucky not to have registered an assist so far.

As it stands, Segecic no doubt looks to be a bargain at Pompey, and could well be a game-changer this season.

Now, John Mousinho will be hoping the Aussie will be able to keep this up for the rest of the campaign.
