Portsmouth to demand £10m for Josh Murphy next summer as Leicester update drops after deadline day
Josh Murphy could still depart Portsmouth to join Leicester City.
Leicester City made a £3million bid for Murphy ahead of deadline day, but John Mousinho and Co. were able to fight off the Foxes’ interest.
This was helped as an exit move for Patson Daka fell through at Leicester, making a late swoop for the Fratton Park favourite unlikely.
After Murphy swept the end-of-season awards at Portsmouth, a departure from the club would have been disappointing to witness, but keeping him was certainly a huge boost.
With that being said, Pompey may not be out of the woods yet, with a switch to the King Power potentially still in the pipeline for Murphy.

This story includes exclusive comment from ex-Pompey midfielder Martin Allen.
Leicester could sign Jacob Murphy next summer
It looks like the Blues are ready to build on their progress from last campaign after such an excellent summer of incoming business.
Ending the transfer window at Portsmouth with Connor Chaplin’s loan from Ipswich Town couldn’t have been a better move to close out the market.
Portsmouth summer signings:
- Adrian Segecic
- John Swift
- Luke Le Roux
- Mark Kosznovsky
- Florian Bianchini
- Min-Hyeok Yang
- Josh Knight
- Josef Bursik
- Makenzie Kirk
- Franco Umeh-Chibueze
- Conor Chaplin
That is especially the case with Murphy also sticking around despite links to the recently relegated side and former Premier League champions.
With that being said, former Leicester City boss Allen believes a move could still go through for the winger in the East Midlands, but potentially not until next summer.
Speaking exclusively to Pompey News, Allen said: “He’s a good player at Championship level.
“He’s certainly one that I’d be looking to sign if I were at a top team.
“He can make things happen, score goals and was an excellent signing from Portsmouth. I don’t know how much they’d want for him.
“We’d be looking at upwards of £10m because he scores goals, and that’s what someone like Leicester needs.
“I imagine he’ll be at that mark with sell-ons and the likes included in that, but Portsmouth will do all they can to keep him until next summer at least.“

Portsmouth could benefit from Josh Murphy sale
It may seem wild to consider selling such an important player, but sometimes a big-name sale can be of benefit to a club and their future prospects.
Having signed Murphy for free, selling him for over £10m could prove to be an excellent piece of business and something that could be spent on key additions in the market.
Given how positive Mousinho’s business has been with limited funds this summer, it could be much improved with a bigger budget next summer.
It will certainly be interesting to see where Murphy’s future lies, but moving him on shouldn’t be ruled out for the right price.
