Conor Chaplin makes second Pompey debut – Early Portsmouth predicted XI vs Southampton
Portsmouth fans are no doubt excited for domestic football to return once the international break is over.
Only four Championship matches were played until the league was halted due to the World Cup qualifiers.
Before this, Pompey were in fine form, with Portsmouth overcoming Preston 1-0 to rise to eighth before the international break.
Now, John Mousinho will be looking to continue this form into the South Coast derby next weekend, with Pompey aiming for a memorable victory.

Conor Chaplin to start in Southampton vs Portsmouth
While multiple new faces through the door on deadline day, there will no doubt be a debate on who will start on Sunday.
Mousinho will likely stick with Nicolas Schmid in goal, who has impressed at Portsmouth so far this season.
In front of him, Regan Poole and Conor Shaughnessy keep their places after their clean sheet last time out.
Connor Ogilvie and Zak Swanson remain the full-backs, with Portsmouth keeping their same backline from Preston.
- Mousinho made four signings on deadline day
- Chaplin was the biggest addition
- However, Mackenzie Kirk, Franco Umeh and Josef Bursik were all also brought in
Into midfield, and Mousinho will no doubt have a tough task picking his main two.
Andre Dozzell will surely start after netting the winner last weekend.
Partnering him will likely be John Swift, with the duo being Mousinho’s preferred partnership early into the campaign.
Taking the attacking midfielder spot is Conor Chaplin after signing for Portsmouth on deadline day.
As a result, Adrian Segecic is pushed out onto the wing, with Josh Murphy on the opposite flank.
Up top remains Colby Bishop, who has had a solid start to the season.

John Mousinho will be hoping his new signings make an impact from the bench
While Chaplin will likely start, many of Portsmouth’s latest additions will not get into the team.
Most notably, both Makenzie Kirk and Franco Umeh will likely start on the bench as they are slowly integrated into the squad.
As a result, Mousinho will likely look towards the duo to make an impact late in the match, especially if the scoreline is not in Pompey’s favour.
Hopefully, all of Portsmouth’s new signings will have a debut to remember on Sunday if they make an appearance.
