John Mousinho blasts referee after ‘extremely dangerous’ moment in Southampton vs Portsmouth

Portsmouth were unable to find a winner as they drew 0-0 with Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium.

John Mousinho’s side started the better team in the South Coast derby but were unable to find the clinical touch needed to go ahead.

Andre Dozzell, who was fantastic for Portsmouth, went closest as he rattled the bar early on.

However, concerned had emerged throughout the match, with the derby still proving to be a feisty affair.

John Mousinho furious with referee over Nicolas Schmid injury

One of the major talking points of the first half was the injury to Portsmouth’s Nicolas Schmid.

The goalkeeper has been one of Pompey’s best players this season and is the undisputed number one under Mousinho.

Therefore, it was no doubt a major concern when Schmid was forced off the field early on for Ben Killip.

However, Mousinho feels the situation should have resulted in punishment for Southampton’s Tom Fellows.

Both the Saints star and Connor Ogilvie were chasing a loose ball before Schmid came out to clear, which resulted in the clash.

Now, the Pompey manager believes that Fellows was at fault for the coming together due to a push.

He told Dan George via X on 14 September: “Connor gets pushed in the back, and it’s extremely dangerous.

“For some reason, the referee and his unit decide to do nothing about it, and it’s an awful challenge that wasn’t dealt with.”

Nicolas Schmid and Connor Ogilvie comeback timeframe still unknown

With the goalkeeper taken off against Southampton, any time out on the sidelines will no doubt be a blow for Pompey.

Schmid has been excellent for Portsmouth so far this season, and Mousinho will be keen to have him back into the starting XI as soon as possible.

On top of this, Ogilvie was also eventually brought off during the game due to the collision, with the full-back having plenty of positive performances to date.

Speaking after the game, Mousinho told Andrew Moon via X on 14 September, that the situation regarding the duo was “not great”.

Schmid was confirmed to have hurt his hand, while Ogilvie had hurt his neck.

The South Coast club will now have to wait to find out how long the duo is out for as the severity of their injuries is assessed.
