Portsmouth player ratings vs Southampton – Andre Dozzell amazing as ‘5/10’ disappoints

Portsmouth played out a 0-0 draw against Southampton in the first South Coast derby since 2019.

John Mousinho’s side had plenty of chances, particularly in the first half, with Andre Dozzell going closest as his early effort smashed off the crossbar.

However, the Saints came into the game more as it went on, and a mistake from substitute Ben Killip almost allowed the hosts to sneak in front.

Nevertheless, neither team could find the killer blow as Portsmouth’s wait for a win against Southampton goes on

Andre Dozzell runs the show against Southampton

Easily the best player on the field, Dozzell ran the show against the Saints.

The midfielder has been in fine form so far this campaign, and Dozzell scored the winner against Preston before the international break.

Here, the 26-year-old continued this spell and was highly unlucky not to break the deadlock when he smashed his distance effort of the bar in the first half.

On top of his threat in front of goal, the midfielder pinged numerous balls around the pitch while also proving to be defensively formidable.

If Dozzell can continue this run of form for the foreseeable future, he could be influential in maintaining Pompey’s spot in the top half of the Championship

Colby Bishop could have done more for Portsmouth

One player who would have hoped to have had a bigger impact against Southampton is Colby Bishop.

Portsmouth’s reliable striker could not get himself into the match and had few chances to break the deadlock.

To date, Bishop’s only Championship goal this season has been against West Brom, and he did not look like adding his second on Sunday.

Unfortunately, this ended up costing Pompey the victory, despite it being a good point picked up on the road.
