Southampton fan faces serious consequences for ‘stupid act’ in Portsmouth draw
Portsmouth played out a dull 0-0 draw with Southampton on Sunday, with neither side able to find the breakthrough.
It was the first time the South Coast derby had been played since 2019, and John Mousinho was looking to pick up Portsmouth’s first victory against the Saints since 2010, and certainly named a bold starting XI.
However, while Andre Dozzell had a great match against Southampton, it was a tie with little action.
One of the most entertaining parts of the game actually came in the first half, courtesy of a Southampton fan.

Pompey News presents the exclusive opinion of former Premier League and FIFA-listed referee Keith Hackett.
Keith Hackett: Southampton fan who pitch invaded could lose his job
In a quiet first half, one of the major incidents came from off the pitch.
With the game locked at 0-0, a Southampton fan made the idiotic decision to run onto the field and try to get to the Portsmouth fans.
Stewards were quick to react to the scene and dragged the supporter away quickly to allow the match to restart.
Now, Keith Hackett has spoken exclusively to Pompey News, believing that this fan could now receive serious consequences for this stunt.
- Portsmouth and Southampton played each other for the first time since 2019 on Sunday
- Either side was able to find a winner in a match of few chances
- Pompey were arguably the best side and particularly bossed the second half
He said: “A fan running onto the field of play is an offence in law.
“A stupid act that will see him miss the game and be in police cells overnight.
“Monday morning, instead of going to work, he will be attending a hearing at the Magistrates Court.
“In some instances, it could result in a loss of employment. Stupid act.“

Portsmouth fans have last laugh in South Coast derby
While it won’t have been the result they were hoping for, Portsmouth fans will be the happier fans coming away from the game.
Given that both Portsmouth and Southampton had been in contrasting positions for years, the fact that the visitors were the better team is a big step in the right direction.
Now, this should give Pompey a platform to continue their good start to the season next week when they face a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side.
In comparison, Southampton face a potentially tricky test against Hull City, which could see them drop further down the table.
