John Mousinho has to drop Colby Bishop as shocking stat emerges after Portsmouth draw

Colby Bishop has been one of Portsmouth’s most reliable players in recent years.

The striker has rarely struggled to find the back of the net, scoring 32 times in the last two campaigns.

As it stands, Bishop is on track to become Portsmouth’s undisputed top scorer in the 21st century.

However, recently, the goals have started to dry up, which could give John Mousinho room to ponder.

Colby Bishop has the third-worst xG to conversion rate in the Championship

So far this season, the striker has only found the back of the net once, from the penalty spot in the 1-1 draw against West Brom.

On Sunday, Bishop produced another poor performance against Southampton, missing numerous golden chances to open the scoring.

Now, after the poor display, WhoScored on 15 September has confirmed that the striker has the third-worst xG to conversion rate in the Championship.

So far this campaign, Bishop has had an xG of 2.54, the seventh-highest in the division.

However, with only one goal coming from this, he has a negative conversion rate of -1.54, with only Kyogo Furuhashi and Aune Heggebo having a worse ratio.

Given this, Mousinho has to consider dropping Bishop. Pompey simply cannot afford to accommodate an underperforming striker when they have multiple talents available to them on the bench.

Makenzie Kirk joined Portsmouth on deadline day, and the former St. Johnstone attacker may have felt that he could have converted one of Bishop’s chances against the Saints.

Portsmouth also have a real chance of challenging for the playoffs given their successful start to the campaign.

Therefore, if they want to maintain their position, Mousinho has to be ruthless in his approach to the starting lineup.

Makenzie Kirk to make debut vs Sheffield Wednesday?

Given Bishop’s recent form and how Sheffield Wednesday are struggling in the league, Saturday may be the perfect time to give Kirk his debut.

The striker will be hoping to find the net as soon as possible at Portsmouth to help him settle quickly into the new system.

So far this campaign, Wednesday have already conceded 12 Championship goals, the most in the division.

Therefore, this could well be Pompey’s easiest fixture of the campaign, making it the ideal time to hand out minutes to Portsmouth’s newcomers.
