Portsmouth news round-up: FA investigation on the cards as Pompey take swipe at Will Still
Portsmouth’s 0-0 draw against Southampton has resulted in plenty of talking points.
It was a tough match, with neither side able to get the winning goal despite Pompey’s dominance.
However, while the action on the field was limited, off it, there has been plenty of spill-over from the match.
As a result, Pompey News has delivered all of the latest stories from the past 24 hours.
John Mousinho faces FA investigation for comments about Tom Fellows
One of the major incidents in the game was the clash between Nicolas Schmid and Connor Ogilvie.
While this appeared to be purely an accident, Mousinho believes Tom Fellows is at fault for the injuries to the Portsmouth duo.
However, heavily against these allegations was Keith Hackett, who believed that Mousinho could be investigated by the FA for his comments.
- Ogilvie and Fellows were both chasing a loose ball in the first half
- However, Schmid also came out to clear the ball, which resulted in the collision
- Looking back on the incident, Mousinho believes Fellows is to blame due to a push
He said: “It appears to me that the Portsmouth player is chasing his opponent and the ball when the goalkeeper comes way outside his penalty area.
“Suddenly, the Southampton player, seeing the goalkeeper coming towards him, puts the brakes on and comes into contact with the Portsmouth player, who literally holds out his arms to slow his movement down, that results in the slightest of pushes.
“I see a contact, but with no malice and certainly accidental.
“The actions of the goalkeeper coming out at pace have more impact on the injury situation rather than the actions of the Portsmouth player.
“I hope that the Football authorities investigate because the statement by the Portsmouth manager is unusual.
“The question to be asked by the Authorities is ‘does the statement by the manager bring the game into disrepute?”
Portsmouth’s social media takes dig at Will Still
Another incident that took place during the derby was between Mousinho and Will Still.
At full-time, the pair went to shake hands, with the Pompey manager holding on to Still as he walked away, much to his annoyance.
Now, Portsmouth have fired a dig at Still regarding the handshake that has since become famous among the fanbase.
Portsmouth’s X account posted an image of Mousinho with a caption that included the handshake emoji, in a clear mockery of the Southampton boss.
John Swift just one yellow card away from Portsmouth suspension
Another incident that may have gone under the radar was that of John Swift.
The midfielder has been a regular for Portsmouth since his arrival from West Brom in the summer.
So far, the former Baggies man has started every Championship game under Mousinho, forming a great partnership with Andre Dozzell.
However, after picking up his fourth yellow card against Southampton, Swift is now only one card away from a one-match ban at Portsmouth.
