Portsmouth take perfect swipe at Will Still with social media post after Southampton draw

Portsmouth’s promising start to the season continued with a goalless draw against Southampton.

Portsmouth’s 0-0 draw at St Mary’s leaves them with eight points in their opening five games, as they sit ninth in the Championship table.

Andre Dozzell was one of the stars of the show, whilst Josh Murphy was a constant threat down the left-hand side.

Despite the scoreline, the match was filled with talking points, including one moment that took place after the full-time whistle involving John Mousinho.

Portsmouth’s social media takes dig at Will Still

After the match, Mousinho and Will Still were caught in an altercation, where the Pompey manager appeared not to let go of Still’s hand during the handshake at the final whistle.

Still later said he didn’t understand why Mousinho “grabbed” hold of his hand, which prompted the Portsmouth X account to post an image of Mousinho with a caption that included the handshake emoji.

Many fans were quick to point out the cheeky use of the handshake emoji, which was no doubt a dig at Still’s post-match comments.

The match itself was relatively even, with this being the first South Coast derby since 2019.

The travelling Pompey fans faced a difficult trip the game, and they’ve been rewarded with a battling performance that sees their side stay above Southampton in the table.

Nicolas Schmid’s moment of madness could cost Portsmouth

In the first half, Schmid charged out of goal to deal with a ball over the top, but injured himself and the unfortunate Connor Ogilvie.

Schmid’s actions left Andy Hinchcliffe confused, and having hurt himself in the collision, he was subbed off for Ben Killip in the 26th minute.

With Killip set to come into the starting lineup for the foreseeable future, there are question marks over his ability at this level.

He featured prominently for Barnsley last season but has only made two appearances for Pompey since joining in February.

With Pompey wishing to build momentum, fans are hoping that Killip proves to be a reliable backup whilst Schmid remains injured.
