Colby Bishop leads messages over ‘insane, unbelievable’ Portsmouth scenes

Portsmouth drew 0-0 with Southampton on Sunday in the first South Coast derby since 2019.

It was a match of few chances, with Andre Dozzell going closest in a superb performance for Portsmouth.

However, despite Pompey being the much better team for large parts of the game, John Mousinho and the squad are likely pleased to pick up what is a solid point.

Now, many Portsmouth players have taken to social media to react to the result.

Portsmouth trio thank fans for their support in South Coast derby

Portsmouth fans no doubt had a tricky time getting to the South Coast derby.

On top of Southampton charging £40 for an adult away ticket, Pompey fans faced a battle to get to the stadium.

Trains to Southampton were replaced with bus services, while Portsmouth supporters travelling via coach had to arrive one hour before departure, much to the dismay of fans.

However, Pompey still sold out their 2700 allocation in no time, to create a menacing atmosphere at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Now, this has not been forgotten by the players, with Colby Bishop, Adrian Segecic and Marlon Pack all taking to their Instagram stories on 14 September to thank the fans.

Bishop put: “Unbelievable. The best there is, thank you for your insane support! A positive point, on to the weekend.”

Segecic said: “What an experience with the best support.”

Pack stated: “The atmosphere was everything I knew it would be from our fans…pure goosebumps on arrival!

“Proud of this group of players for putting in that level of performance and for understanding what this game means. PUP.”

What did John Mousinho say after the Southampton vs Portsmouth match?

While the match had little action, the Pompey manager had plenty to say after the game.

Mousinho was quick to criticise the referee in the Portsmouth match for the challenge that led to the injuries of Nicolas Schmid and Connor Ogilvie.

The duo were both forced off during the game, and it is unknown how long they will be on the sidelines for.

On top of this, Mousinho told The News on 15 September that he was happy with how his squad killed off Southampton’s atmosphere.

He said: “I was pleased with the way we handled the occasion. It was a big build-up in terms of the two weeks of the international break; it had been a 13-year build-up for the football club, and you can feel it with the atmosphere.

“Whether it’s on social media, whether it’s in the media, whether it’s living in the city, you can definitely feel the pent-up frustration of Pompey being where they have been over the past 13 years and always looking up – and I thought the players handled that superbly.

“I came out in the warm-up, and it was an electric atmosphere. We killed that off very, very effectively and very, very efficiently as the game went on.

“That was really pleasing because sometimes you can come to these places as the underdog and maybe not handle it that well, but we handled it well and the work-rate was superb.”
