Josh Murphy reacts as Portsmouth star sends new message after latest injury blow
There were plenty of talking points following Portsmouth’s scoreless draw with Southampton.
The first South Coast Derby in six years produced plenty of fireworks despite the lack of goals on display at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
John Mousinho and Will Still’s handshake clash at the end caused plenty of discussion, with both sets of fans weighing in on the incident.
Mousinho’s side performed well against Saints and were the better side for much of the game, earning a well-deserved point.
Pompey remain one point outside the play-off spots as their good start to the season continues, but an injury to Nicolas Schmid may have overshadowed that.

Josh Murphy sends encouraging message to teammate
Schmid’s derby ended early as he was withdrawn in the first half through injury.
Schmid collided with teammate Connor Ogilvie, which eventually resulted in the defender being replaced due to injury as well.
The goalkeeper took to Instagram to reassure fans that he was okay after the incident and thank them for reaching out to him.
He wrote: “Thank you for all your messages. Now it‘s time for recovery, but I‘ll come back stronger.”
Josh Murphy offered his support to his injured teammate, commenting on the post with emojis, including a heart and a strong arm.
Murphy had a brilliant campaign last time out and will be clearly one of the key players in blue again this season, shining on the biggest stage in the derby, too.
- Murphy signed a three-year deal at Fratton Park last summer
- He made 35 appearances in the Championship last season
- Murphy scored seven goals in his debut campaign for Pompey
John Mousinho blames Southampton for Nicolas Schmid injury
The Portsmouth manager was quick to point out who was responsible for the injuries to his players against Southampton.
Mousinho put the blame on Tom Fellows for the incident, saying it was an “awful” challenge from the winger.
Mousinho could be in hot water for these comments, particularly considering the referee didn’t deem it worthy of an offence.
The 39-year-old can be proud of how his team played in what will be one of their most difficult fixtures of the season.
Pompey will have to wait until January to face their great rivals again, but will be confident in their ability to get a result at Fratton Park.
