Christian Burgess sends heartwarming message to Portsmouth after historic achievement
Christian Burgess is still well-loved at Portsmouth despite leaving Fratton Park in 2020.
After helping guide Pompey to the League Two title and the EFL Trophy, the centre-back has since made his trade at Union SG in Belgium.
Here, he has found further success, becoming a regular for the side and even winning the Belgian Pro League last season.
However, neither the centre-back nor Portsmouth have forgotten about his Pompey past despite his quick rise.
Burgess congratulated Portsmouth on achieving Championship survival last season, and now it appears that the South Coast club have returned the favour.

The centre-back has had an exciting week at Union Saint-Gilloise.
After Burgess wished Portsmouth good luck in the South Coast derby last week, he quickly had to prepare for the Champions League.
It was Union SG’s debut match in the competition as they travelled to PSV Eindhoven for their opening game of the league stage on Tuesday.
Here, the Belgian title holders stunned the Dutch side, coming away with a 3-1 victory from the Philips Stadion.

- Since then, he has lifted the Belgian Cup, the Belgian Super Cup and the Belgian Pro League title
- Burgess has now captained Union SG to a Champions League victory
Not only did Burgess start the match, but the centre-back was also the captain on this historic night.
As a result, Portsmouth posted a message via X on 16 September, congratulating their former star.
It read: “From League Two with Pompey, to victorious Champions League night, captaining Union SG.
“We’re all proud of you, Burgess.”
The centre-back soon replied to the message saying: “Thanks guys. Love you,” with two blue love heart emojis.

Portsmouth stars should take inspiration from Christian Burgess
Burgess has no doubt had a sensational career, and despite being 33 years old, he is still reaching new heights.
Therefore, many Pompey players should be looking towards the centre-back for inspiration.
Stars such as Regan Poole, who have high expectations at Portsmouth, would do well to follow Burgess’ footsteps.
If this happens, it will help both the centre-back and Pompey reach new heights over the coming years.
