Every match Nicolas Schmid will miss as Portsmouth horror injury blow revealed

Nicolas Schmid is facing a spell on the sidelines following an incident in the South Coast derby.

Schmid was substituted against Southampton after he came out for the ball and injured himself whilst clattereing Connor Ogilvie in the process.

Schmid had an X-Ray on his hand following the collision, with John Mousinho hopeful that the injury wasn’t too serious.

However, new reports have confirmed the worst for the Portsmouth manager and Schmid.

Nicolas Schmid out for 12 weeks

BBC South reporter Andrew Moon has confirmed on X that Schmid will be out for up to 12 weeks injured after he sustained a broken right hand.

He said: “Pompey goalkeeper Nico Schmid has broken his right hand. Set to be out for 8-12 weeks.”

This is a hammer blow for Portsmouth, who have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season in the Championship.

Pompey’s 0-0 draw at Southampton was a huge sign of progress for the team, and they could have won it in the final 10 minutes.

After the match, Mousinho took aim at Southampton’s Tom Fellows, indicating he was to blame for his role in the collision.

Schmid’s injury means he will likely return in mid-December, as Pompey must navigate tough fixtures without him.

Key Portsmouth fixtures Schmid could miss

With Portsmouth set to face some of the best teams in the league away from home in the next three months, fans will be putting their faith in back-up goalkeeper Ben Killip.

Ben Killip has huge responsibility on his hands

Killip featured prominently for Barnsley last season but has only made three appearances for Pompey since joining in February.

After coming on against Southampton, he looked assured and dealt with many crosses that came his way.

He made a brilliant save to deny Finn Azaz from scoring and made four recoveries during the match.

Whilst he is ready to play Championship football consistently, Schmid’s absence means that he will have big gloves to fill.
