John Mousinho can ‘easily rectify’ Jordan Archer decision after Portsmouth snub

Portsmouth find themselves in a difficult situation after their 0-0 draw with Southampton.

During the first half, Nicolas Schmid was forced off the field for Portsmouth at St Mary’s after colliding with Connor Ogilvie.

While it is currently unknown how long Schmid will be out at Fratton Park, the goalkeeper could spend months on the sidelines in a worst-case scenario.

Therefore, with Ben Killip producing a nervous display against Southampton, there is a concern that Pompey will be significantly weakened going into the coming months of the campaign.

Now, Jordan Archer may have a chance of re-entering the scene at Portsmouth despite John Mousinho’s recent snub in his squad list.

Portsmouth can easily re-register Jordan Archer

After the transfer window had closed, it was confirmed that Archer was not registered by Portsmouth in their 25-man squad.

The goalkeeper had previously been a back-up at Fratton Park last season, making three appearances in all competitions.

However, after Archer failed to secure a move away, and with the signing of Josef Bursik, the goalkeeper was deemed surplus to requirements.

Now, given the injury to Schmid, the 32-year-old’s career at the South Coast club could be revived.

According to Neil Allen via X on 16 September, Portsmouth can “easily rectify” the situation and re-register Archer if needed.

John Mousinho needs to quickly register Jordan Archer

If Archer can be registered, then Mousinho should waste no time in completing this task.

The goalkeeper knows the division and the squad. Therefore, if needed, he can quickly transition into the starting XI with ease.

While the likelihood of him being called upon is slim, if Killip or Bursik are not up to standard while Schmid is injured, then he could play numerous matches.

Also, given that Archer is set to make thousands at Portsmouth for little to nothing, this can be rectified by being added to Pompey’s squad.
