Portsmouth hero in running to be next Rangers manager amid Russell Martin sack latest
Portsmouth seemingly have their managerial position sorted for the near future, with John Mousinho doing an excellent job at Fratton Park.
The 39-year-old has taken Pompey from League One and turned them into a mid-table Championship outfit.
As a result, Mousinho has been heavily praised for his work at Portsmouth, with the South Coast club having an outside chance of the playoffs this season.
However, north or the border, Rangers are having a torrid time under Russell Martin, with the former Southampton boss yet to win a single game in the Scottish Premiership.
With the sack looking more likely as each week passes, plenty of names have been linked to the position.

Gary O’Neil in fourth favourite for Rangers job
Gary O’Neil is no doubt a former Portsmouth hero.
The midfielder played at Fratton Park between 2000-07 and helped oversee their establishment in the Premier League.
However, since going into management, the Englishman has struggled and was sacked by Wolves late last year, with the side in the relegation zone.
- O’Neil has managed Bournemouth and Wolves since retirement
- The manager has been out of work since December 2024
- O’Neil is now linked with the Rangers job
O’Neil was recently linked to the Southampton job before it went to Will Still.
Now, according to BETVICTOR on 16 September, the former Portsmouth star could find himself at Ibrox very soon.
The bookies have the manager at 9/2 for the job. The current favourite is Sean Dyche at 3/1, followed by Steven Gerrard at 7/2 and Danny Rohl at 4/1.

Portsmouth should look to tie John Mousinho down to a new contract
Now that the 2025/26 campaign is truly underway, it is inevitable that some managers will be sacked over the coming weeks.
Ruben Selles has already been given the boot at Sheffield United, with Chris Wilder returning to the Yorkshire club.
However, given the ability of Mousinho, other clubs may look towards the Pompey manager as a potential appointment.
Mousinho has already been linked away from Portsmouth, with West Brom eyeing the coach in the summer.
Therefore, if Pompey can get ahead of the game and tie him down to a new contract, it may deter potential suitors from the 39-year-old.
