Adrian Segecic shares message John Mousinho had for Portsmouth players after Southampton draw

Portsmouth have enjoyed a promising start to their Championship campaign.

Having only suffered one defeat from five, Pompey sit ninth in the table and are looking to make a push for the playoffs this season.

Portsmouth’s 0-0 draw with rivals Southampton was a brilliant indication of how their performances have improved, with the squad becoming mentally stronger.

John Mousinho tells players to focus on Sheffield Wednesday match

Segecic played 76 minutes for Southampton at St Mary’s in his first taste of this fixture.

And speaking ahead of Portsmouth’s next game, Segecic told the club’s website: “The gaffer’s been on at us this week about just how important this next game is for us back on home soil.

“The mood is really high at the moment, and everyone’s feeling confident ahead of our return to Fratton Park.

“We have to use that to try to secure all three points because that can take us to an even stronger position in the table.”

Portsmouth take on struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, as they look to build on the encouraging performance at St. Mary’s.

Segecic has become a fan favourite already, having joined the club from A-League side Sydney FC.

As a result of his early-season form, Segecic was called up by Australia for the first time.

The 21-year-old hasn’t been the only Pompey star to excite fans this season, as Mousinho’s side have a real belief that they can remain in the playoff picture come May.

Southampton performance an indication of Portsmouth’s playoff credentials

Josh Murphy has been a constant threat to opposition defences all season, whilst Andre Dozzell completely bossed the midfield against Southampton.

Colby Bishop’s presence in the box is always a handful, and every good Championship side needs a clinical striker on their side.

Defensively, Pompey have looked solid, keeping three clean sheets in their first five games.

Portsmouth will have to cope with Nicolas Schmid’s injury, and will hope that backup goalkeeper Ben Killip can step up for the team in the next few months.

However, the future looks very bright for Pompey, and fans may be remembering the 2025/26 season for a long time.
