Portsmouth fans plan classy gesture to support Sheffield Wednesday protests at Fratton Park
Portsmouth host Sheffield Wednesday at Fratton Park on Saturday hoping to build on their solid start to the season.
Portsmouth earned a goalless draw at bitter rivals Southampton last weekend to increase their points tally to eight from five games.
That result keeps them above their bitter rivals in the Championship table and on the cusp of the playoff places.
Sheffield Wednesday are going through all sorts of financial troubles and are currently in the bottom three with a solitary point from their first five matches.
Portsmouth are strong favourites to beat Sheffield Wednesday. Still, there are no easy games in the Championship, and Pompey’s players will still need to be at their best to claim victory over the Owls.

Portsmouth fans to show solidarity with Sheffield Wednesday protest
Sheffield Wednesday fans have been protesting against owner Dejphon Chansiri’s mismanagement of the club all season.
In a show of support, Portsmouth will allow Wednesday fans to bring protest banners into Fratton Park on Saturday.
What’s more, Pompey fans will host a banner supporting the protest in the Fratton End.
The theme of the protest is black and gold. Scarves and balloons with this colour scheme will be sold at the away turnstiles on Saturday.
Sheffield Wednesday troubles will remind Portsmouth how far they have come
It could be easy for other supporters to poke fun at Sheffield Wednesday for the financial turmoil that is tearing apart their club.
After all, they are ‘rivals’ in the Championship who now look destined to take one of the three relegation spots in the table.
However, the Owls have mostly received support and empathy from other fans, who realise that the same thing could happen to their club one day.

Pompey fans might have more empathy than most, having seen firsthand what unfit owners can do to a football club.
It’s a classy gesture from Portsmouth to support their opponents’ protests with a banner in the Fratton End.
While the focus among home fans will still be on the 11 players in a Portsmouth shirt, these protests will serve as a meaningful backdrop which may remind the Fratton Faithful how far their club has come.
