Jamal Lowe can expect unique Portsmouth welcome with Sheffield Wednesday
Jamal Lowe returns to Fratton Park with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The forward remains a firm favourite with Portsmouth fans thanks to the role he played in helping them get promoted from League Two in 2016/17.
He made 104 appearances for Pompey, scoring 30 goals. Some Portsmouth fans on social media were pleading for the club to resign Lowe this summer. He’s likely to receive a warm reception if he plays on Saturday.
However, the Jamaican isn’t proving so popular among his own fans this season.

Jamal Lowe becomes scapegoat among Sheffield Wednesday fans
Sheffield Wednesday have been horribly mismanaged. They’re in tremendous amounts of debt. They’ve paid players late several times this year, and many have cancelled their contracts as a result.
Their results on the pitch have reflected this financial turmoil. They have one point from five games in the Championship and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby this week.
Needless to say, it’s not going well at Hillsborough.
Lowe is one of the most senior players at the club following the exodus of players this summer, but he’s being accused of downing tools by the Wednesday fans.

The irony is that Portsmouth fans will give Lowe a warm applause, making for a rather unique scenario.
John Mousinho will ensure there’s no complacency in Portsmouth camp
Portsmouth are strong favourites to beat Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. The Owls have been widely tipped to finish bottom of the Championship since players starting cancelling their contracts. Their form on the pitch hasn’t suggested they have it in them to stay up.
- Wednesday have one point from five games
- They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby
- They are mostly relying on academy players, having lost several senior stars
Even so, John Mousinho isn’t the type of manager to let complacency creep into the Portsmouth dressing room.
Mousinho will ensure that his players have the right mentality going into the game. His side have picked up some impressive results this season, not least the 0-0 draw away at Southampton last weekend.
Still, he won’t allow his squad to get too big for their boots. You can expect all Portsmouth players to nail down the basics on Saturday, whether that’s outworking the opposition, winning individual battles or defending set pieces correctly.
That, along with the extra class in Portsmouth’s squad, should be enough to see them through this game.
