John Mousinho shares injury update on Josh Murphy and two others as attacker out for 12 weeks
Portsmouth had plenty of concerns coming out of their 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
On the pitch, Portsmouth were nowhere near good enough against Sheffield Wednesday, with the Owls deservedly taking home the three points.
However, while the performance was a big concern against a struggling side, injuries also became a big factor throughout the match, with Josh Murphy being a notable absentee from the line-up.
Now, John Mousinho has provided an update on the situation after the match.

John Mousinho: Josh Murphy could be back next week
Murphy is no doubt one of Portsmouth’s best players.
The winger creates multiple chances a match, which has proven to be the difference maker time after time.
This resulted in multiple bids for the Murphy from Leicester in the summer, but Mousinho managed to keep hold of his star man.
However, after Murphy suffered from an injury at Portsmouth earlier this season, there was a fear that he could face more time on the sidelines after his absence from the team sheet against the Owls.
- Murphy was left out of the lineup against Sheffield Wednesday
- The winger picked up a minor ankle injury
- He could be back for Ipswich Town next week
Now, Mousinho has confirmed to Andrew Moon via X on 20 September that the winger only has a “minor ankle injury,” and he could make his return for Ipswich Town next weekend.
However, Conor Shaughnessy, who picked up an injury during the Wednesday match, and Thomas Waddingham were not so fortunate.
Mousinho stated that the centre-back has torn his hamstring, while the young Aussie attacker is out for 12 weeks.

Josh Murphy – minor ankle injury could be back next week
Conor Shaughnessy – torn hamstring
Thomas Waddingham – set to be out for 12 weeks
Josh Knight set for run in Portsmouth’s starting XI
Given the injury to Shaughnessy, Josh Knight may now be set for a run in the starting XI.
The centre-back was signed in the summer, but has rarely had a look-in, given the form of the South Coast club.
Now, with Shaughnessy set for an extended time on the sidelines, the defender will be the favourite to come into the starting lineup.
Coming off the bench against the Owls, Knight did okay, and hopefully, he can continue to improve as the season goes on.
