Portsmouth player ratings vs Sheffield Wednesday – Florian Bianchini woeful, 7/10 shining light

Portsmouth fell to an awful 2-0 defeat to struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday at Fratton Park.

Despite Portsmouth going into the match against Sheffield Wednesday as heavy favourites, they were completely off the races.

Barry Bannan opened the scoreline in the first half with a stunning free-kick, which set the tone of the match early on.

Wednesday then doubled their lead in the second half, thanks to George Brown, after Conor Shaughnessy pulled up with an injury during the pursuit of the ball.

While Pompey did have chances, they failed to convert any as Pompey fell to a shocking defeat.

Florian Bianchini woeful vs Sheffield Wednesday

Coming into the side for the injured Josh Murphy, Florian Bianchini had an opportunity against Sheffield Wednesday to prove his worth to John Mousinho.

Brought in during the summer on loan from Swansea, Bianchini has already had a tough start at Portsmouth, and this continued on Saturday.

The winger struggled to create, with multiple crosses being overhit throughout the match.

Against a poor Owls side, it was heavily concerning, especially if Murphy proves to be out for a while.

Hopefully, Bianchini will soon prove his worth and show Mousinho why he brought the winger in.

Luke Le Roux shows John Mousinho why he should start for Portsmouth

While there are few players who can come away from the defeat with their heads held high, Luke Le Roux is one.

Coming off the bench at half-time, the midfielder put in a decent shift and offered some creativity, in a side lacking ideas.

The South African international has struggled to get into the team since Le Roux’s summer move to Fratton Park.

However, his performance against the Owls may give Mousinho things to consider ahead of their trip to Ipswich Town next weekend.
