Annoying Conor Chaplin news confirmed as John Mousinho issues Portsmouth challenge vs Ipswich

Portsmouth are aiming to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they take on Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

John Mousinho’s side suffered a terrible 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, which disrupted their early momentum.

Now, they are set to face one of their most difficult games of the season, as they travel to Portman Road to face promotion-hopefuls Ipswich.

Ipswich are the overwhelming favourites for the Portsmouth clash, and now, Pompey’s chances of getting a result have just got significantly harder after the new regarding Conor Chaplin.

John Mousinho: Conor Chaplin ineligible for Ipswich clash

Chaplin was signed by Portsmouth on deadline day from Ipswich Town on loan.

However, despite the signing being seen as a significant coup, Mousinho has allowed the Tractor Boys to insert plenty of clauses into the deal.

It had already been confirmed that Ipswich have a recall clause for Chaplin in January.

Now, Mousinho confirmed to Portsmouth in his pre-match press conference on 24 September that the attacking midfielder will not be able to play on Saturday.

When asked if the upcoming match was a chance for other players to step up, he said: “All over the pitch really, with the likes of Shaughnessy picking up the injury.

“We have got Conor (Chaplin) coming out of the side because of the loan agreement, so there are going to be opportunities for players to come in and hopefully impress after a disappointing result on the weekend.

“That’s why we have got the squad, that’s why we built the squad, and that’s why we need players competitive in every position now, and it is going to be an interesting chance for a couple to go out and prove themselves.”

Yang Min-hyeok could get his chance vs Ipswich

Yang Min-hyeok is confirmed to be fit for Portsmouth’s tie against Ipswich after picking up a knock.

With Chaplin ineligible, Mousinho may be tempted to play Adrian Segecic in a central position and bring in Yang to play on the wing.

It would be a massive chance for the Tottenham loanee to prove himself to the manager after rarely featuring so far this campaign.

However, if he can pick up a goal contribution, it could force Mousinho to pick the youngster in his starting XI going forward.
