David Prutton makes Portsmouth prediction vs Ipswich after what Simeon Ghoulam said – ‘Wowsers’
Portsmouth are out to rebound from an embarrassing defeat to Sheffield Wednesday when they visit Ipswich Town on Saturday.
John Mousinho’s side missed a golden opportunity at Fratton Park last time out as Portsmouth were beaten 2-0 by Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.
Ipswich, meanwhile, were losing 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers last weekend before a late abandonment saw the game finished early, with their last official result the 5-0 hammering of Sheffield United.
Portsmouth sit 13th in the Championship table after six games and will be aiming to shoot up the table with victory at Portman Road this weekend.

David Prutton can’t see Portsmouth win this weekend
Pompey’s disappointing outing against the Owls last time out was mentioned by Simeon Ghoulam when discussing this weekend’s Championship fixtures with Sky Sports host David Prutton on the Essential EFL podcast.
Ghoulam said: “Portsmouth beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield Wednesday, wowsers, on Saturday, not a good result for them. What’s the score going to be on Saturday?”
Prutton replied with: “I’ll go 2-1 Ipswich.”

Portsmouth need more consistency
Portsmouth have struggled to turn chances into goals, underperforming their xG by -41.7 to underpin their lack of potency in front of goals.
By contrast, Ipswich are fifth in terms of goals scored per game meaning there could be plenty of action in Pompey’s own penalty area this weekend.
Statistics | Portsmouth | Ipswich Town |
Goals scored per game | 0.70 | 1.80 |
Goals conceded per game | 0.80 | 1.00 |
Portsmouth have the most wins in this fixture since 2010, picking up seven victories in 15 games.
Pompey have been in decent nick overall, but with two wins, two draws, and two defeats, it is obvious that a little more consistency is needed to challenge even further up the table.
The goalless draw with rivals Southampton this month shows this side is well capable of competing, but the defeat to Wednesday was emblematic of the lack of consistency on display thus far.
Mousinho shared encouraging news regarding Josh Murphy, a key player to Pompey’s survival last season, and his potential return against Ipswich would be much welcomed.
