Ipswich Town risk extended Jacob Greaves ban if decision taken ahead of Portsmouth game
Portsmouth are set to face Ipswich Town on Saturday as they look to return to winning ways.
Travelling to Portman Road, Portsmouth suffered a terrible 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
Therefore, with a win needed, they face a difficult task against promotion-hopefuls Ipswich.
However, John Mousinho’s side have just received a boost ahead of the match on Saturday relating to Jacob Greaves.

Pompey News presents the exclusive opinion of former Premier League and FIFA-listed referee Keith Hackett.
Keith Hackett: Ipswich risk extending Jacob Greaves’ ban if suspension is appealed
Ipswich come into the match on somewhat weird circumstances.
The Tractor Boys technically won their last match 5-0 against Sheffield United.
However, last weekend they looked set to lose 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers before the match was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.
Now, after it was controversially confirmed by the EFL that the match will have to be replayed in full, it was unclear what would happen with Greaves’ suspension after he was given his marching orders against Blackburn.
While it is now clear that he will be suspended for the Portsmouth game, Keith Hackett exclusively told Pompey News what would happen if Ipswich chose to appeal this decision.
- Greaves was sent off in the abandoned match against Blackburn
- Despite the game being voided, he is still suspended for the Portsmouth match
- Ipswich can appeal this decision
He said: “If a red card is shown to a player during a game or part of a game, it must be reported.
“The red card in an abandoned game is recorded and dealt with in the normal manner.
“Remember, a player can be dismissed during the warm-up, and is not allowed to participate in that game.”
“In the normal manner, a club can appeal a red card.
“If the panel determine that it is a frivolous appeal, they have the ability to increase the suspension.”

Jacob Greaves’ suspension is a needed boost for Portsmouth
Portsmouth are already heading to Ipswich as underdogs. Therefore, the suspension of Greaves will be welcomed by Mousinho.
Pompey are in need of a bit of luck, and hopefully, the loss of the centre-back can help the South Coast club end their attacking woes.
Mousinho’s side have only netted four times in the Championship this season; therefore, a changed backline for Ipswich could help bring this to an end.
Hopefully, Colby Bishop will be able to take advantage of this suspension and finally end his goal drought.
