Portsmouth could achieve feat not seen in five years in Ipswich showdown
Portsmouth are set to travel to Portman Road on Saturday as they take on promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town.
Both teams come into the match on indifferent form, with the Tractor Boys having their last match abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at Ewood Park.
Despite this, Ipswich still go into the Portsmouth game as favourites as they look to recover their early-season form.
However, the suspension of Jacob Greaves has improved Portsmouth’s chances of victory, with John Mousinho looking to end Pompey’s winless run.

Portsmouth aiming for first league win at Portman Road in five years
Portsmouth’s recent form against Ipswich is nothing to shout about.
While the two teams were in League One, Pompey often struggled, with the Tractor Boys unbeaten in their last four matches in the league.
However, with Mousinho’s side unbeaten in their last five away matches, this could be set to change on Saturday.
- Portsmouth have put together a good away run recently, and are unbeaten in their last five outings
- Their last defeat on the road was a 1-0 loss to Coventry in April
- Pompey are now looking to extend this on Saturday as they hope to come back with all three points
If Portsmouth were to pick up three points at Portman Road, it would be the first time they have achieved this since December 2020, when they won 2-0 thanks to a brace from Ryan Williams.
Therefore, a victory on Saturday would end this terrible five-year record and widen the points gap between the two clubs.
John Mousinho pleased with Portsmouth’s away form
Before their unbeaten away run, Portsmouth were awful away from home.
They had lost 11 of their 12 matches away from Fratton Park, with his quick turnaround helping them to avoid relegation last season.
When queried on their recent surge in form away from home, Mousinho admitted to BBC Radio Solent on 25 September that the 5-3 win against Norwich City helped the South Coast club turn a corner.
He said: “We tried to improve the away form and towards the back end of last season we did improve it, just not in terms of results but also with performances.
“It wasn’t good enough, we still wanted to win, but we never lost by more than a goal, but then managed to turn the corner with a positive result at Norwich (5-3 win) and a point at Sheffield Wednesday.”
