Conor Chaplin has already warned Portsmouth about sensational Ipswich star

Portsmouth face a difficult task on Saturday if they are to overcome Ipswich Town.

Pompey are winless in their last two outings, and are now tasked with getting a result against a side that was in the Premier League last year.

Portsmouth already have potentially eight players out for the Ipswich tie, which is a big blow.

One star who will miss the match at Portman Road is Conor Chaplin, with the attacking midfielder ineligible to play against his parent club.

However, he has already given Portsmouth a warning about which Ipswich player to watch out for on Saturday.

Conor Chaplin: Leif Davis is dangerous at both ends of the pitch

Many of Ipswich’s players have progressed massively since their time in League One.

After taking the Tractor Boys to the Premier League, multiple stars in Kieran McKenna’s squad have stayed in hopes of returning them to the top-flight.

One of their biggest achievements was keeping hold of Leif Davis, who is seen as one of the best full-backs in the league.

Chaplin is fully aware of the 25-year-old’s ability, having played with Davis for many years.

Speaking to the Ipswich Star on 23 April 2023, the Portsmouth loanee heaped praise on Davis after their 3-0 victory against Peterborough.

In one section of his interview, he said: “There were other big moments today, like big blocks, and Leif’s (Davis) defending at the back post today was probably the best I’ve seen him.

“He’s got so much ability going forward, but he’s maturing as a defender and has come on leaps and bounds.”

Portsmouth have to take their chances against Ipswich

It is no secret that Ipswich are going to make life very tough for Portsmouth at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys have only conceded five Championship goals this season, the joint third-lowest in the division.

With their defence boasting players like Davis and Dara O’Shea, Pompey have to take their chances if one is presented.

Portsmouth have been poor in front of goal this season, and if they are to get a result against Ipswich, this has to change.
