John Mousinho confirms another knock after Ipswich defeat as Portsmouth’s injury crisis worsens

Portsmouth seem to be out of luck at the moment as John Mousinho’s side suffered another defeat on Saturday.

Ipswich beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Portman Road, with multiple players being poor on the day.

However, it was a much-depleted Pompey side, with Mousinho confirming eight absentees before the Ipswich game.

Now, this situation does not appear to be getting any better, as the manager discussed the current injury situation after the defeat.

John Mousinho: John Swift knock prevented the midfielder from starting

Going into the match, Portsmouth were forced to make multiple changes for the Tractor Boys.

Conor Shaughnessy, who is now set to be out of Portsmouth’s team until Christmas, was perhaps the biggest loss, with the defender requiring hamstring surgery.

However, on top of the defender, Mousinho has admitted that he was forced into more changes due to injury.

John Swift, who started against Sheffield Wednesday, was taken off at half-time for Luke Le Roux, with the South Africa international taking his place in the starting lineup against Ipswich.

Now, Mousinho has admitted to BBC Sounds on 27 September that this was a forced change, due to Swift picking up a knock against the Owls.

He said: “Swift was struggling this week with a bit of an ankle injury he picked up in the first half last week against Sheffield Wednesday.

“Luke has been really good when he has come on and put on a Portsmouth shirt, and it was good to give him his full debut.”

John Swift and Marlon Pack have to start vs Watford

Assuming that Swift will be fit to start after his cameo from the bench, then Mousinho has to start the midfielder alongside Marlon Pack against Watford.

Together, the duo helped change the game upon their entrance to the field, and if the duo had started, it could have been a different game.

After back-to-back defeats, it is vital that Pompey pick up a victory against the Hornets, especially with Watford having a difficult start to the campaign.

If Mousinho fails to achieve this, Portsmouth will likely go into the international break fearing relegation to League One once more.
