Portsmouth player ratings vs Ipswich – Zak Swanson dismal, 8/10 standout
Portsmouth suffered back-to-back defeats in the Championship as Ipswich eased to a 2-1 victory at Portman Road.
It was the worst possible start for Pompey as Jaden Philogene found the back of the net after just nine minutes.
George Hurst then doubled the hosts’ lead just before half-time after Yang Min-hyeok missed the chance to equalise minutes prior.
Marlon Pack managed to get a goal back in added time, but ultimately, John Mousinho’s side were unable to bounce back from the 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
Zak Swanson woeful vs Ipswich
Zak Swanson had been solid for Portsmouth at the start of the campaign. However, he was completely outplayed at Portman Road.
Both of Ipswich’s goals came down his side as he struggled to contain the hosts’ threat.
For the first goal, the full-back simply has to close down the angle to make it difficult for Philogene.
Instead, it just felt too easy for the Tractor Boys, and Swanson’s performance simply allowed the hosts to put the game to bed before half-time.
Marlon Pack makes impact from bench
Since coming back from his injury, Marlon Pack has struggled to re-establish himself in the Portsmouth starting XI.
However, at Portman Road the midfielder put in a statement performance in front of Mousinho.
Pack’s introduction changed the game, and his performance was rewarded with a goal late on in added time.
Given how poor Portsmouth’s midfield were against Ipswich in the first half, Mousinho has to consider introducing Pack back into the starting XI against Watford.
