John Mousinho must ask questions of Colby Bishop as horrific statistics emerge from Portsmouth defeat

Colby Bishop’s struggles this season continued against Ipswich on Saturday as Portsmouth fell to a 2-1 defeat.

The striker has still only netted once this season, from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw against West Brom at The Hawthorns.

However, since then, Bishop has put in numerous concerning performances for Portsmouth as their issues in front of goal continue.

Now, after their defeat to Ipswich, another concerning statistic has emerged that raises questions for John Mousinho ahead of the Watford tie.

Colby Bishop only had 18 touches against Ipswich

Against Ipswich, Bishop once again had a poor match.

According to Fotmob on 27 September, the striker only managed to have 18 touches, despite playing 90 minutes.

This was the lowest of any outfield player on the pitch who played the entire match, with even Marlon Pack managing more, who came off the bench.

On top of this, when Bishop was on the ball, he did little, only completing 56 per cent of his passes, and failed to have a single shot.

While Ipswich is no doubt a tough place to go, questions need to be asked of the striker, especially when he is having little to no effect on the match.

As a result, Mousinho has to consider dropping Bishop sooner rather than later.

While Portsmouth do not have a great backup striker, changes have to be made as Bishop does not even look like scoring at the moment.

Against Watford, Mousinho would do well to drop the attacker and figure out a system that will produce goals.

Portsmouth could soon find themselves in a relegation battle

If Portsmouth do not find a solution to their attacking woes soon, they may find themselves in a relegation battle.

So far this campaign, Pompey have only netted five times in the Championship, with only Sheffield United netting less.

Given the injuries to Nicolas Schmid and Conor Shaughnessy, Mousinho may not be able to rely on his backline as heavily anymore.

Therefore, if this problem is not fixed, relegation is staring Pompey in the face.
