Portsmouth fans make clear demand to John Mousinho after defeat vs Ipswich
Portsmouth lost 2-1 away at Ipswich on Saturday, although the score failed to highlight the huge gulf in class between the two teams.
Ipswich were far stronger than Portsmouth in every area, and took a two-goal lead in the first half through strikes from Jaden Philogene and George Hirst.
Most of Portsmouth’s players struggled to make an impact at Portman Road, but they did net a consolation goal through Marlon Pack.
The result sees Portsmouth drop further down the Championship table, putting more pressure on John Mousinho’s team to secure a positive result at home against Watford on Wednesday.

Portsmouth fans call for Marlon Pack to start against Watford
Portsmouth were better in the second half, and that was largely due to the introduction of Pack as a substitute.
Pack replaced Luke Le Roux after 62 minutes, and his calmness on the ball helped get Pompey back into the game.
He also netted a late header to cap off his impressive performance in his first appearance of the season.
Portsmouth’s club captain Pack suffered a knee injury in pre-season, which meant he missed the first seven league games. His steadying presence was a huge benefit for the team at Portman Road, though.
After the game, many Pompey fans took to social media to demand that Pack starts the next game.

Portsmouth’s game against Watford could reveal a lot about their season
Portsmouth slipped to 17th in the Championship table after Saturday’s results. They now sit just three points above the relegation places.
They welcome Watford to Fratton Park on Wednesday, a team that has struggled to find their form this season. The result could reveal a lot about how Portsmouth’s season is going to go.
Date | Opponent |
1 October | Watford (H) |
4 October | Middlesbrough (H) |
18 October | Leicester (A) |
21 October | Coventry (H) |
25 October | Stoke (H) |
A win will send them flying back up the table, such is the compactness of the league during these early stages.
It will give them some extra breathing room and hopefully some much-needed confidence heading into a tricky run of fixtures in October. With Portsmouth’s injury list increasing every week, it could be a big ask.
A defeat may send them plummeting even closer to the bottom three, potentially setting the tone for another tough relegation battle this season.
Whether Pack starts the game remains to be seen. What’s clear is that this could be a season-defining match for Portsmouth.
