Portsmouth news round-up: John Mousinho issues devastating injury update amid ‘dire’ Ipswich scenes

Portsmouth fell to a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town on Saturday at Portman Road.

It was a poor performance, with Pompey essentially out of the game at half-time.

While Marlon Pack did manage to get a goal back in the dying minutes, it was too little, too late.

Now, with the dust settled, Pompey News has rounded up all of the stories from Saturday’s loss.

John Mousinho confirms Conor Shaughnessy needs surgery

Conor Shaughnessy was ruled out of the Ipswich game after picking up an injury against Sheffield Wednesday.

The centre-back picked up a hamstring injury, but it was unknown how long the defender would be out for.

However, after the defeat to Ipswich, John Mousinho has now confirmed that Shaughnessy is out until Christmas.

On top of this, the defender will need surgery as he looks to quickly get back out onto the pitch.

Portsmouth fans criticise ‘dire’ Yang Min-hyeok vs Ipswich

While many players were poor against Ipswich, Yang Min-hyeok will have been particularly disappointed with his contribution on Saturday.

The winger was given his full Championship debut against the Tractor Boys, but struggled to make a positive impact.

In the first half, Yang had a golden chance to equalise, but his effort was unable to find the back of the net.

As a result, criticism was rife online, with some Portsmouth fans labelling Yang’s performance as “dire”

John Mousinho admits John Swift has picked up a knock

As well as Shaughnessy, Portsmouth currently have numerous players out on the sidelines.

This has no doubt affected Mousinho’s team sheet in recent weeks, especially in their recent match against Ipswich.

While the manager did make multiple changes for Saturday’s game, a notable one was John Swift dropping out of the starting XI.

After the match, Mousinho admitted that Swift had picked up a knock during the Sheffield Wednesday match last weekend. As a result, he was placed on the bench against Ipswich.

He said: “Swift was struggling this week with a bit of an ankle injury he picked up in the first half last week against Sheffield Wednesday.

“Luke has been really good when he has come on and put on a Portsmouth shirt, and it was good to give him his full debut.”
