Three Portsmouth players who have picked themselves vs Watford after Ipswich performance

Portsmouth host Watford on Wednesday evening, as they look to bounce back in the Championship after defeat at Ipswich last time out.

Pompey are suffering from more injuries, with key players like Conor Shaughnessy prepared for an extended period out of the action.

John Mousinho‘s side headed to Portman Road on 27 September with a threadbare squad and were relatively eased past as Ipswich beat Portsmouth 2-1.

The home side’s three points were never in doubt after the second goal went in, as the Tractor Boys kept Pompey at arm’s length for the remainder of the game.

Mousinho has some decisions to make ahead of Watford’s arrival on the south coast, as these three players need to start.

Marlon Pack

Pack has struggled with injury, with his 28-minute cameo against Ipswich being his first minutes of the season.

Despite this, he put in a statement performance and got his stoppage time goal, sending the message that he is ready to be put back in the team from the off.

The Portsmouth captain would add some much-needed leadership in the middle of the park as his side will need to keep Watford’s Imran Louza quiet for any chance of three points.

Adrian Segecic

Segecic was an assured presence in the 62 minutes he featured in before being substituted for John Swift.

Although the midfielder didn’t get on the ball nearly as much as Pompey would have hoped for, he had a 100 per cent pass accuracy, created one big chance, and provided one key pass to a teammate, according to Sofascore.

The Australian showed he can be effective when given the chance to, it’s just a shame it seemed so rare that he was given an opportunity.

If Portsmouth can get the 21-year-old on the ball in areas where he can penetrate the Watford defence, he will be key in getting a result.

Connor Ogilvie

It was a poor defensive performance from Portsmouth; however, the issues came mainly from Ipswich’s left-hand side attacking Zak Swanson at right back.

Swanson signed a new deal earlier this year and has repaid that with a solid start to the season, but he struggled against Ipswich and was outshone by Ogilvie on the other side of defence.
