Championship supercomputer makes new prediction as Portsmouth form crashes
Portsmouth have lost two games on the bounce and have a growing list of injury concerns.
Despite a bright start to the season at Fratton Park, pessimism is creeping into the minds of Pompey fans.
Portsmouth only lost 2-1 to Ipswich on Saturday, but they were second-best for much of the game. The defeat left them only three points above the relegation zone, placing a lot more pressure on the team to earn a positive result against Watford on Wednesday.
It could be difficult, as John Mousinho confirmed more injury concerns over the weekend, meaning Portsmouth’s squad players will need to step up.

Championship supercomputer makes updated prediction on final league standings
The Championship supercomputer was created by sports data company Opta to make predictions based on previous matches.
It considers factors such as results, possession, shots on goal, form, injuries and more.
The supercomputer can run thousands of simulations of the Championship season based on this data, then make a final prediction based on the average amount of points each team picks up.
At the start of the season, it was predicted that Portsmouth would finish 15th with roughly 60.7 points.
However, with new information from the first seven games, it now thinks Portsmouth will finish 19th with around 56.96 points.
Interestingly, their next opponents, Watford, were tipped to finish in the bottom three, alongside Oxford and Sheffield Wednesday.
Wrexham and Derby were the only other teams forecast to finish below Portsmouth.

Fratton faithful will back Portsmouth to pick up a crucial win vs Watford
After Pompey picked up a hard-earned point against Southampton, there was definitely talk among some fans of a potential chase for the play-offs.
There won’t be many discussing that now, but the majority of Portsmouth fans remain fully supportive of Mousinho’s project at Fratton Park.
Team | Projected points |
19. Portsmouth | 56.96 |
20. Wrexham | 56.65 |
21. Derby | 54.85 |
22. Watford | 54.82 |
23. Oxford | 51.79 |
24. Sheffield Wednesday | 51.27 |
There were always going to be ups and downs at Pompey this season, but the general feeling remains that the team is heading in the right direction.
They’ll need as much support as possible from the Fratton faithful against Watford. Even at this early stage of the season, this feels like a huge game, if only because Pompey have such a tricky run of fixtures throughout the rest of October.
