John Mousinho unimpressed at major Portsmouth problem ahead of Watford – ‘It has not been good enough’
Portsmouth’s form ahead of the Watford clash has taken a turn for the worst.
After an impressive August that saw Pompey on the edge of the playoffs, the South Coast club have now plummeted down the table.
Portsmouth’s 2-1 defeat to Ipswich has now sent them 17th in the Championship, with John Mousinho’s side unable to pick up a single win in September.
Now, in his press conference before the Watford match, the manager has not held back in his criticism of certain areas.

John Mousinho: Portsmouth’s home form has not been good enough
While Portsmouth have boasted a good away record this season, when at Fratton Park, it has been a different story.
In all competitions, Pompey have lost three of their four matches at home, with their only victory coming against Preston at the end of August.
Portsmouth have traditionally had a good record at home under Mousinho, with this being vital to their survival last season.
Now, Mousinho has told Portsmouth on 29 September that he is far from pleased with how his side have played at Fratton Park this season.
- Portsmouth took 40 points at Fratton Park last season
- However, this campaign, they have lost 75 per cent of their matches in all competitions
- With two consecutive home matches on the horizon, Mousinho is hoping their bad form will come to an end
He said: “We are going to focus on the game on Wednesday night first, that is the most important thing.
“Our home form has not been good enough this season, and we need to pick up.
“It is something we have prided ourselves on over the past couple of years. We were very strong last year, very strong the year before, and certainly a huge factor in us staying in the Championship last season.
“It is a bit of irony that we have been much better away from home than at home, but we need to pick up, and we have two great opportunities to do it.”

Portsmouth need to pick up a win before the international break
So far, Pompey’s form since deadline day has been a disaster.
While Portsmouth have had multiple injuries, that is simply no excuse to not be beating teams like Sheffield Wednesday.
With just two games left until the next break, Mousinho has to ensure he picks up at least one win.
Watford is obviously the easier match. However, on their day, there is no reason why Portsmouth can’t pick up a result against Middlesbrough.
Hopefully, Mousinho will be able to inspire his players to get a victory and increase the optimism around the stadium.
