Portsmouth fans will be fired up by what Kwadwo Baah has just said ahead of Watford clash

Portsmouth take on Watford at Fratton Park on Wednesday in a game that could reveal a lot about both teams.

Both sides are sitting just three points above the relegation zone after unconvincing starts to their seasons.

Portsmouth started their campaign brightly, but have lost their last two games on the bounce. Watford would have been a lot more nervous about this game had they not beaten Hull City last Saturday.

However, beyond the tensions of their league positions, there’s a bit of bad blood between Portsmouth and Watford, and this may have been escalated by what their striker Kwadwo Baah has said before this match.

Kwadwo Baah antagonises Portsmouth fans in Sky Sports interview

Baah hasn’t been forgiven by Portsmouth fans for mocking them with a Fortnite dance after Watford beat them at Vicarage Road last season.

Rather than celebrate the victory with his teammates, Baah approached Portsmouth fans and rubbed the result in their faces. His actions created a melee between both sets of players, and he was ultimately shown a red card.

Portsmouth fans have been waiting to give Baah a warm welcome to Fratton Park after what he did, but he missed the game in April through injury.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Wednesday’s fixture, Baah dared to suggest he didn’t regret what he did the last time he faced Portsmouth.

He said: “Some might disagree, but I do think that if fans can give it to us, we should be allowed to give it back. I just see it as banter and I’m not going to change who I am.

“I’ll always show some personality on the pitch. Players should loosen up and show that side of themselves. The abuse doesn’t bother me. I just smile and move on.”

Baah deserves all the stick coming his way if he plays at Fratton Park

It’s one thing to approach the opposition fans and antagonise them. That’s against the rules of the game, and Baah was punished when it happened.

It’s another thing not to apologise for getting caught up in the heat of the moment

It’s quite another to say in a public interview that you don’t regret it and that you’d do it again.

Baah even had the audacity to say that the abuse shows “he’s doing something right on the pitch,” even though he only has seven goals since signing for Watford in the summer of 2024.

Baah was pictured leaving Vicarage Road in a sling after suffering a shoulder injury against Hull last Saturday. There’s every chance he’s making these comments knowing that he’ll be unavailable to play against Pompey.

If he does play, he deserves every piece of stick coming his way.
